The goal of the Government Affairs at KMTA is to advocate and influence potential legislative proposals, laws, regulations and public policies impacting the trucking industry in Kentucky. In order to achieve our goals, staff works to develop strong relationships with policy and opinion makers inside the state capitol along with our KMTA lobbyists.

Legislative Tracking Each legislative session, KMTA pursues change through various legislative efforts, including the sponsorship of legislation and by tracking and taking positions on various bills potentially impacting the way you do business in Kentucky. During each session KMTA staff actively follows legislation related to fleet modernization, goods movement, emissions reductions and transportation infrastructure projects. Grassroots Advocacy Kentucky state Senators and Assembly members want to hear from you, their constituents and voters in their districts. Often times, it is the contact from a constituent that will determine how a member votes - this is grassroots advocacy.

Action is needed at times to educate legislators about the trucking industry and its contribution to the Kentucky economy and strengthen the connection between the trucking industry and elected officials. Average activity encourages letters, e-mails, personal calls and visits to your legislators. Often times, it is the contact from a constituent that will determine how a member votes.

Weekly Legislative Updates To continually stay up to date with latest legislative news every Friday, when the legislature is in session, you will receive an email summarizing the latest actions on important legislation and news around the capitol.
